Product Overview

The PCB Standard Buffer ZCL-3 is the fundamental line-balancing solution for SMT production lines. It sits between two adjacent stations and holds a small number of boards in a first-in, first-out queue. When the downstream station is momentarily busy — processing a board, performing a calibration cycle, or handling a brief pause — the ZCL-3 absorbs the incoming boards from upstream and releases them when the downstream station is ready.

Without a buffer between stations, any brief pause at one machine forces the entire upstream portion of the line to stop. The ZCL-3 decouples adjacent stations, allowing each to run at its own pace within a reasonable range. This is the most common buffer type in SMT lines and is typically placed between the reflow oven and AOI, between AOI and the unloader, or between any two stations with slightly different cycle times.
